The Evergreen Cemetery survived two world wars, the depression and delinquent state tax certificate status to emerge in 1946 identical in size, as it was when it was dedicated. Having been in unincorporated territory, in 1946 it was in the city limits of the town of Casselberry., Florida. Also it was a “trust” property, with a cemetery Tax Exempt, status property for property tax purpose. The land was use as a cemetery, it was also a place where people lived and raised their family. IT was a food shortages, ration stamps was given out to be use only to buy butter and sugar, gas was 18 cents a gallon, bread was 15 cents a loaf. Racism was very wide spread, racial discrimination was in every thing, the black schools would get the used out dated school books from the white school the condition of the books were not good some pages was missing etc. Rosenwald Elementary School and Crooms High School would receive these books, the schools had no running water or bathroom, they had out houses for their bathrooms, also there was no lunch room. At the time Rosenwald Elementary School went to the 1st through 8th grade and Crooms High School went to the 9th through 12th grade.

What was the surrounding like around the cemetery in the early days?

The cemetery was surrounded by forest with oak trees, sand pines, evergreen, camphor, and palm trees, along with wild ferns growing though out. There was the Casselberry ferries and packinghouse this was located on the land were the target store sits, also there ash ferries that sat on what now is anchor road, there was one gas station and mechanic shop call Buck horn.
